FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 17, 2025 For media inquiries, contact: Tanisha Taylor, Press Secretary press@mctndp.org Clarksville, Tennessee – On Monday, April 14, the Montgomery County Democratic Party (MCTNDP) adopted a resolution calling for the immediate resignation of CMCSS school board member Aron Maberry. Newly elected MCTNDP Chair Allie Phillips said, “Aron Maberry has made it clear that he is not here to support our public schools while serving on our public school board. He promotes school choice while overlooking the deeper societal implications of these policies. He pushes against diversity, equity, and inclusion while serving a diverse school and state population, not to mention overlooking the true experience of those who benefit from diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.” As a freshman state legislator, Maberry has put forth bills to permit religious leaders to counsel public school students in school and another to dismantle Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. He voted for the Education Freedom Scholarship Act voucher bill and shared support for the current bill that allows schools to deny enrollment to students based on their citizenship status. The MCTNDP states that Maberry has directly violated the CMCSS School Board’s Governing Style and Code of Conduct, in which school board members vow to “represent at all times the entire school community and refuse to represent special interests or partisan politics.” “Maberry has publicly shared on social media his desire to dismantle the public school system and said the reason he has maintained his school board seat is to ensure that it remains Republican-held. That is a clear violation of the School Board Code of Ethics,” Phillps said. The MCTNDP opposes Rep. Maberry serving in both a state legislation position and our local school board, which provides him with the unique opportunity to directly impact Montgomery County public school funding, management, and hiring practices. |
