As we approach the primary election, I want to take a moment to express the importance of every one of us exercising our right to vote. Since last January, our country has been under the control of an administration that has made it evident we do not matter. And when I say we, I mean people like you and me. People who do not bow down to the rich and powerful, people who desire a life where children are safe, the cost of living is manageable, and everyone has their fair chance at the American Dream. Consequently, in the world we are currently living in, it seems as if it will always remain a dream. A harsh reality that we have so far to go.
But, let me give you some hope. There are candidates running for local office who share the same vision we do. These are hardworking, everyday Americans who felt called to be the change we are so desperately seeking; however, their elections depend on the voters. Voters who engage on getting others engaged. Every vote matters which is why this administration is trying their hardest to suppress it. The SAVE act is the latest example of how afraid they are of our power, our vote. So, educate yourselves on the candidates who are running. Volunteer on one of their campaigns by canvassing, phone banking, or post card writing.
We all must come together if we want to make our future brighter. We protest in large crowds for our dream of a better life, but during these midterms, let us protest by casting our vote for candidates who will fight for us, not against us. We deserve better. It’s time.
