Aftyn Behn: a Tennessee Firebrand with National Support

A week ago, former Vice President Kamala Harris was in Nashville for her book tour at the Ryman Auditorium. Like all Americans, and countries around the world, Kamala has been following the current TN7 Special Election. And like the true patriot that she is, Kamala made a stop at a rally for Aftyn in Nashville. With a megaphone in hand, Kamala spoke to Tennesseans and reminded us that the power belongs to us, the voters.

Having political figures like Kamala Harris and Jasmine Crockett support her shows that Aftyn is a true definition of what the Democratic Party should stand for. Of course, this sent Republicans spiraling. They understand that there is a real chance they could lose this election. Super PACs poured an upwards of 1 million dollars into the Mike Van Epps campaign on Tuesday. Yes, the same day Kamala attended the rally for Aftyn. This is what Aftyn is competing against. Big corporations, big pockets. Aftyn chose to run her race with grassroots support. By going into the communities, asking Tennesseans what our concerns are. This is how you win elections; by putting your voters first.

Aftyn is winning the hearts of many because she has a heart, and that is what separates her from her opponent. He focuses on greed, Aftyn focuses on fixing the roads, feeding the kids and funding hospitals. At a time when healthcare is going to be ripped from families due to high premiums, kids are in harm of not being fed, and hospitals are closing, her message is important. We do not need another Trump loyalist in Washington; we have too many. We need a representative who can fight for our needs, not against them. But for her to do that, we need to support her.

There are many ways to help. Phone banking, canvassing, donations, and encouraging your friends and family to vote is how we show solidarity. It is how we increase voter turnout because let’s be clear, Tennessee isn’t a red state, it is a non-voting state. There is a huge number of registered voters who do not vote, and there lies our problem.

We can protest, we can make social media posts complaining about how awful this administration is, but if we do not vote, they keep the power. The power that belongs to us will stay in their hands and we will have to deal with the repercussions. If you are fed up, I want you to express it with your vote. There is a reason the GOP wants us to believe that we don’t matter because they know that we do. They know that we have the power. So, use it.

Election Day is December 2nd. Please check your county’s voting location and times. Check here to verify that you live in District 7
