MCTNDP elects Chair Allie Phillips and new officer team

Fellow Democrats,

I would love to introduce myself to you as the new Chair of the Montgomery County Democratic Party. My name is Allie Phillips, I recently just celebrated my 30th birthday, I’m a mom to a spunky 7 year old girl, and I have a little boy due within the next month. I currently work for the TN AFL-CIO and reside in West Montgomery County.

You may have heard my name before; that’s because last year I ran for the TN State House District 75 seat, and though I did not win, we came extremely close with just over 45% of the vote. This number is crucial because that means we laid the path for the next candidate to flip the seat! I’m passionate about fighting for the rights and protections of everyone and truly believe if we work together, we are unstoppable.

Saturday we held our Reorganization Convention to elect new officers and executive committee members for the 2025-2026 cycle. To say it was a success would not do it justice. We had just under 140 people from across our county show up and get involved with our party AND we elected a full slate of executive committee members from each House district, totalling 30 members. We also grew in all our caucuses and look to grow in our committees as well. I would like to introduce you to our new MCTNDP Officer Team:

Chair – Allie Phillips

1st Vice Chair, Communication – Rebecca Janssen

2nd Vice Chair, Fundraising – Christine McKinney

3rd Vice Chair, Political Affairs – Mary RIchards

4th Vice Chair, Grassroots Outreach – Rose Hall-Valentine

Treasurer – Lori Bryant

Trustee – Garfield Scott

Secretary – Tanisha Taylor

This team of officers are committed and ready to help push our party forward and elect Democrats to turn MoCo BLUE! Now is the time to get involved. We have multiple caucuses that you can join, and if there isn’t a caucus that you identify with, we encourage you to form your own. You just need 5 members, a leader & a meeting date to get started. Here are the current caucuses you can join (you can join more than one!): Womens, Veterans, LGBT, Black, Hispanic, Educators, Youth & Labor.

We are thrilled to offer these spaces for our members so you all can organize and focus on the issues that matter most to you. If you’re interested in joining a caucus, please reach out to us in any capacity! Email, social media, in-person, etc. YOU’RE INVITED!

Our first Executive Committee meeting is coming up on April 1st at 6PM. We offer hybrid meetings to be more accessible to everyone who wants to attend, so please head to our website at mctndp.org/event to find all the details and register to attend.

These meetings are open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend. You will also notice other events happening before our meeting! This is a great resource to stay in the know and get involved with your local party.

Lastly, I know the mix of feelings we are all going through right now. From the harm the TN GOP is causing, to the absolute dumpster fire of the Trump administration. We are pissed, frustrated, scared, and worried. But we are also strong, hopeful, energized and motivated now more than ever to make change. All feelings are valid, and my goal is to harbor those feelings and put them to work. We can’t sit around and wait for someone to “save us”; we have to do it ourselves, and it can be done if we work together. Taking the high road has gotten us nowhere. The Republicans didn’t take a strong hold on our government by taking the high road and playing by the rules. Democrats have to be willing to dig deep and get dirty, and I know MoCo Dems are ready to do just that. This isn’t about right vs. left; it’s about basic human rights and decency.

So, are you ready to join the fight? Are you ready to help your community move forward in a positive way? Are you ready to stand beside like-minded people? The Montgomery County Democratic Party is ready for you. Thank you to everyone who attended our event, and please, spread the word to your friends and neighbors. The bigger we grow, the bigger our impact will be. I look forward to meeting, working and growing with all of you. 2024 was not a great year for Democrats, but 2026 is our chance at redemption. Let’s make it happen!

With Love,Allie Phillips
