MoCo Democratic Leaders Call for an End to Gun Violence.

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*

CLARKSVILLE, TN (June 1, 2025) —Following last night’s fatal shooting, Democratic State Representative Ronnie Glynn (District 67) and Montgomery County Democratic Party Chair Allie Phillips are calling for immediate action to put an end to gun violence in Tennessee.

“My prayers go to the family of the young man who was killed last night at the fair. Families should be able to go out and enjoy themselves without fear,” said Rep. Ronnie Glynn. “It will take a community effort to mentor our young folks about the importance of settling their differences without violence.”

“It breaks my heart. My husband and I discussed bringing our 7-year-old to the fair that night, but ultimately decided not to go. I can’t imagine the fear all of those families felt as soon as they heard those gun shots,” said Chair Allie Phillips. “A mother lost her baby last night and one life lost at the hands of a gun is one too many. This has to end.”

The night of May 31, 2025, at the Montgomery County fair, gun shots could be heard in the parking lot around 9:10 PM. It was reported that a group of young teens could be seen fleeing the scene while one teen was left with a gunshot wound to the chest. That teen was transported to our local hospital where he, unfortunately, did not survive.

According to the Clarksville Police Department, this was an isolated incident and the shooter(s) still remains at large. These incidents aren’t rare.  In fact, data from the Gun Violence Archive has reported that, just in Tennessee, 115 people have died and 196 have been wounded in shootings by April 30th this year.

“As Democratic leaders and parents, we ask our elected officials to work across the aisle and put an end to this nightmare. Nowhere is safe and Tennesseans deserve to not live in fear,” said Chair Allie Phillips. “We send our deepest condolences to the family that has been impacted by this tragedy. We hope justice will be served and we will continue to fight for an end to this madness.”
