The US Supreme Court just upended decades of civil rights progress, here’s what YOU can do to resist!

Yesterday in Washington DC, the Supreme Court of the United States handed down a 6-3 decision that re-writes decades of civil rights progress. This decision effectively gutted Section 2 of the Voting RIghts Act of 1965, now granting Republican governors and legislatures the power to undermine the power of Black, Latino, AANHPI, Native American and Alaskan Native voters in their states.
Senator Marsha Blackburn wasted no time in calling for a special session to redistrict the already gerrymandered Tennessee Congressional District Map with the aim of diluting the votes of Black citizens in Memphis and targeting the single Democratic district remaining in Tennessee.
It’s clear that this is a power grab by the Republicans. Per Chair Christine McKinney, “They fear the power of the people. The tide is turning against them and they know they can’t win unless they cheat, so they are stacking the deck in their favor.”
What we can do: we must remain resolute in our mission to knock on every door, make every phone call, and reach every Democrat, Independent or former Republican voter in our county. We have to show up in every election and elect Democrats to office. This year we have three chances to flip seats, from local races to national. By electing Democrats we can push back and regain the power that Republicans continue to steal from us.
