FAQ
What is a convention?
It’s basically a big meeting of Montgomery County Democrats we have every two years to get us all on the same page about flipping our county blue. We elect officers, an executive committee, and form caucuses to organize for the 2026 cycle.
Am I qualified to run?
If you are a Democrat who is registered and eligible to vote in Montgomery County, then YES, you can run for pretty much any office on convention day. We are seeking folks who, above all else, have a passion for creating change, electing Democrats, and, more importantly, being a good team player. You can serve as an officer, an executive committee member, and in any of our caucuses.
Can I run for multiple officer positions?
Yes, you can run for multiple positions, and it’s not unusual for folks to have a few options going into the convention. It’s important that you develop a vision for what you want to accomplish in your position and have a meeting with whoever holds the position currently so you have an idea of what you are getting into. You can find each officer’s contact information at the bottom of this page.
Do I have to fill out the nomination form right now, or can I decide on the day of the convention?
You can decide at the last second during nominations whether to run. The form just allows the party to share your information with convention attendees ahead of time so it’s easier for you to meet your voters. Regardless of whether you file, you will need to get a nomination and second from the floor of the convention to give a speech and be considered on the ballot.
Speech? I have stage fright!
Your fellow Democrats want to hear from you! This is an opportunity to get them bought into your vision for our party.
How do you know if I am a Democrat or not?
We will “vet” every convention attendee to ensure they have participated in the Democratic Party and our primaries. We welcome converts! If you are leaving another political party or joining a party for the first time, we will ask you to sign a pledge of support form.
If I get elected, how will I know how to do my job?
The Tennessee Democratic Party will host a summer training for all members, and our county party will host a retreat later in the year to make a plan for the cycle. Additionally, each position has a job description found here, and our policies & procedures include responsibilities found here.
